Description of the Campsite
The
campsite at La Baie, Trinité
sur Mer and its adjacent sister site La Plage
are both excellent campsites run by the same family.
The La Baie site has a nice location right at the beach, is very friendly,
has excellent children's clubs and runs various
excursions. There is a friendly welcome at the
reception and the site is beautifully laid out
and
is well cared for with interesting trees etc dividing the
various plots and has spotlessly clean washing and shower
blocks. Some of the plots are on the small side but it may be
possible to request one of the larger plots if booking with Keycamp and Eurocamp. As well as mobile homes and tents for rent by
Keycamp and Eurocamp, this site is an
excellent site for taking your own tent or caravan
with well laid out emplacements for your own caravan or tent and
excellent, clean, washing facilities.

The site is well located in the small holiday town of
Trinite Sur Mer which has
some fabulous old holiday
villas as well as modern holiday houses as well as a yachting
harbour or marina. La Baie campsite is also
only a few miles from Carnac town centre. This
is a good bike ride which we did a few times. (The photograph on
left taken while we cycled from the campsite to Carnac)
You can also visit
the famous standing stones at Carnac from here. There is a
"Petit Train" which leaves from La Baie and will take you on a
trip past the standing stones or you can take your own car.
The La Baie camp site has a very safe feel about it and children can play at the playground and basketball pitch which are situated right opposite the swimming pool near the entrance to the campsite.
There is a beach right across from the campsite, next to the restaurant and a further beach a 5 or 10 minute walk around from the back of the campsite. Both can be seen in the photographs below. It is also possible to walk right round the headland which makes a very pleasant evening stroll. In fact these paths can be taken right into Trinité Sur Mer itself which is maybe a 20 minute to half an hour walk away.

The facilities on-site are as follows :
- two swimming pools - one shallow one for toddlers and a deeper pool (0.4m - 1.2m) with a twisty waterchute which you can use if you are able to swim. Older kids may well be looking for a few more flumes etc but that is one advantage in that for younger children there are not so many teenagers at this pool ! However the campsite do also run occassional sessions of, for example, scuba diving which would appeal to older children and adults.

- There is a camp run children's club which had very nice French students working in it, who ran all sorts of activities and expeditions, some to the beach and the forest as well as some sports competitions, craft activities and sand castle competitions etc ! This runs during July and August.
-
bike hire (see photograph) - basketball court
- volleyball court
- table tennis tables
- play area
- organised excursions and walks, although the walks sometimes involve taking your car to a start point before going on the guided walk with the campsite courier. This is a great way to meet some other people from the campsite and a great way to explore some places you might not otherwise visit.
- there were a few activities arranged for teenagers during the High Season as well - for example the week we were there there was a pony ride leaving from the campsite and also an excursion to a nearby karting track. There was also a campsite run beach volleyball tournament which you could enter.
- across from the site is a restaurant/cr
eperie,
takeaway, bakery and shop. We found the shop
excellent and were just a little disappointed with the
restaurant although it was popular but this may have been to
do with the World Cup being on so a slightly rowdier
crowd than usual ! We found the takeaway to be good and the
bakery excellent too. - there is a TV/film room
- all the usual shower block and washing up facilities and washing machines

Things to Do in the Area
Trinité Sur Mer is a very scenic small town. It has a high percentage of holiday houses and villas, many from the turn of the century so this makes some entertainment in itself deciding which one you would like to live in if you had enough money !
Trinité Sur Mer has some lovely shops
and restaurants along the seafront. The town is
situated around the marina and port.
There is a traditional
market every Tuesday and Friday situated in the
square next to the small supermarket. You will also find an
excellent indoor fishmarket right next to the marina. This
operates on market days as well and is well worth a visit even
just to see the giant tuna fish and the fantastic selection of
shellfish that are for sale.
The marina itself is famous for y
achting and was where
Dame Ellen McArthur was based for a while. I am not sure where
she is currently based. But you will be able to see some large
racing catamarans berthed in the marina.
Places to visit nearby can include everything listed for the
Carnac La Grande Metairie campsite on this site, as
Carnac is
right next to Trinite Sur Mer.
However other places we visited from Trinite included Auray, with its scenic old port complete with tall ship !

Sainte Anne d'Auray with its cathedral is worth a visit. (It is 20 miles inland)
We actually visited this on the way back to the ferry port but it is worth seeing and is a site of religious pilgrimage.

We have found that the campsites described are very good but we find that it is difficult to find a campsite which has 100% of what you are looking for. Also one person may love a busy campsite with lots of activities while someone else may love a quiet campsite with a small swimming pool. Actually we tend to be the latter ! So what we have done is highlight the good points of the sites and maybe point out a few of what we have found as slightly negative points. However we strongly recommend that you make full use of as many internet sources as possible before deciding about your holiday, including other review sites and Google maps etc.
