Description of the Campsite
Chateaux Lez Eaux is a picturesque four star
Castels campsite. It is a peaceful campsite for those who want to enjoy their
holidays.
The site is in an excellent situation right on the West Coast of Normandy close to some excellent beaches and very close to Brittany, Mont St Michel, Granville and the Channel Islands. New for this year is a redesigned indoor waterpark.
The site is at
Saint-Aubin des Préaux which is only 4km
inland and a short drive from St Pair Sur Mer, a
small town of only 3,000 inhabitants and which has a beautiful
long
sandy beach where you can take part in watersports.
The larger town of Granville is 5.5 kms to the North. The site is off a main road, but is surprisingly quiet.

The facilities on the campsite include :
-
Excellent swimming facilities including an outdoor swimming pool and an indoor waterpark with slides. Please note that boys and men may need to wear the speedo or trunk style swimming suits as opposed to the baggy shorts style swimsuits. This is the case in many pools in France so its well worth packing them anyway !

-
fishing on the lake
-
a fantastic playground as well as an inflatable playground

Things to Do in the Area
Mont St Michel - a magnificent abbey on an
isla
nd. One of the first sites to be included on UNESCO's World
Heritage List. This is busy but well worth a visit if you haven't
already been to this most visited Tourist Attraction in France !
The narrow streets can get busy in high season and you may find
them difficult with very young children and buggies. If you have
young children and are desperate to see it then it might be a
good idea to try and get there as early as possible to avoid the
crowds.
Cobac Park is a small leisure park for children,
with a swimming pool, slides, roundabouts, miniature train and play
area. There is also mini-golf, a bouncy castle and pony rides. It is
situated at Le bois du Cobac, 35720 LANHELIN. To link to a map of

Zoo de Champrepus at Villedieu-les-Poêles in
Normandy is an excellent zoo with 50 different species in 7
hectares. To link to its internet site

The Scriptorial in Avranches contains some of the precious ancient manuscripts from the Abbey at Mont St Michel. For more information click here.
Granville is a lovely small town, famous as a yachting centre. It is just five and a half miles north of the Campsite. Here you will also find the Christian Dior and Richard Anacreon Museum.
World War 2 Museums and Historic Sites - there are many sites to be seen in Normandy, related to World War 2. For some of the sites that can be seen in Avranches please click here. The D-Day celebrations take place this year from 5th to 7th June. More information about World War 2 and Normandy can be found by clicking here.
The Aquarium du Roc in Granville is worth a visit. Have a look at its internet site by clicking here.
Coutances Cathedral (29 kms).
The Jazz Festival "Jazz sous les Pommiers" (Jazz under the Apple Trees) takes place every May in Coutances. Jazz lovers from all over Europe flock to this festival where they will enjoy eight days of music and partying. It is now in its 29th year and the bill is bursting at the seams with music greats as well as plenty of up-and-coming talent. There will be promenade concerts and jam sessions as well as ad hoc performances where the music literally spills out onto the streets. Click here for more information.
Mini Golf
Elves forest at Cerences
Many local producers of cheese, cider etc can be visited.
St Malo
87kms away is the walled town of St Malo which would be worth a day out. There is also an excellent aquarium at St Malo.
The walled town of St Malo is definitely worth a visit. There are many fantastic shops and restaurants within its walls. You can also enjoy watching the artists or if you are brave enough you can have your caricature painted !
The
town has a fantastic history stretching back to the days of
pirates, or corsaires, who set off from here, and leading right
up to the recent history during the second world war in 1944 when many
buildings within the walled town were bombed. The restoration
job is so well done that you would never guess that many of the
buildin
gs have been restored.
The
2 hour walk around the ramparts will give you some magnificent
views of the coast and islands. There are many access points to
the ramparts so you can chose to join or leave them at many
points.
The photograph to the left shows a view of the port of St Malo taken
from the walk around the ramparts.
There is always something to see around the port area. Here is a tall ship from the Tall Ships Race 2006 at St Malo.
St Malo has an excellent bus Park and Ride facility which is a great way to get into the walled city.

We have found that the campsites described are very good but we find that it is difficult to find a campsite which has 100% of what you are looking for. Also one person may love a busy campsite with lots of activities while someone else may love a quiet campsite with a small swimming pool. Actually we tend to be the latter ! So what we have done is highlight the good points of the sites and maybe point out a few of what we have found as slightly negative points. However we strongly recommend that you make full use of as many internet sources as possible before deciding about your holiday, including other review sites and Google maps etc.
