Things to Do in the Area

Colliourecollioure (2 km)
Visit Collioure and see the Bar du  Templiers where young artists such as Picasso and Matisse would buy drinks with their paintings. You will love its meandering narrow village streets filled with colour and the church tower right on the seafront.

Argeles Sur Mer and Argeles Plage
This resort offers a great 7km long sandy beach which has been awarded the blue flag for cleanliness.  It also offers a range of excellent restaurants and shops as well as a marina. There are two nature reserves nearby, Mas Larrieu by the sea, and the nature reserve of La Massane forest in the heart of the Albères Mountains.

Déferlantes Festival
The rock legend, Joe Cocker, is the first of the headliners announced for the festival Déferlantes which will take place in Argelès-sur-Mer from the 8th to the 12th of July 2011 in the Park Valmy. Christophe Maé will also be there.

Chateau Valmy, Argeles Sur Mer
A wine-making Chateau with a 24 hectare vineyard which has a garden open to the public. The vineyards are marked out with roses, so you can tell which ones are used to make which wines – yellow roses for chardonnay, red for Grenache and pink for rosés. You can taste the wines - they produce 5 dry wines and two sweet wines. This sweet wine tastes of honey and flowers.  There is a playground for children as well as various activities for children. There are portable MP3 headsets which will guide you on a tour of the garden, telling you about the varieties of trees and plants. The visit costs €2, €1 per child.

Château de Peyrepertuse
You can drive to this château in the mountains near to Perpignan and enjoy the great views and surrounding countryside.

Aqualand St Cyprien
If you have younger children or teenagers with you who would like to have a day in a water park then the excellent Aqualand at St Cyprien is well worth a visit. This is a large waterpark with an excellent selection of pools and slides. Suitable for toddlers and teenagers. It is the largest waterpark in Roussillon. It is quite expensive and there are hidden extras such as having to pay for a sun lounger but it is a fun day out. Mind you if you are like me and you would be too scared to go on any of the flumes etc then it is a bit much having to pay the full adult fee !

Argeles Adventure
Climbing/adventure park. (Not suitable for under 5's.)

Pyrenees Mountains
The Pyrenees Mountains separate France from Spain at the border here.

Carcassonne
(1hr 30 mins) (94 miles, 80 miles on motorways). This citadel city is well worth a visit.

Banyuls-sur-Mer Aquarium
Aquarium.

Reserve Africaine
More than 3800 animals on nearly 300 hectares of semi-natural park.

Dinosauria
This museum houses permanent exhibitions devoted to dinosaurs, including fossils, eggs and tracks of dinosaur. Models and figures of dinosaurs can be seen.
