Description of the Campsite

lake at chateau l'eperviereThis lovely spacious family run campsite, Domaine de l’Epervière at Gigny-sur-Saône, is situated in the heart of the Burgundy countryside, between Beaune and Mâcon.

The region is famous for its vineyards and wine production. The campsite is set in the grounds of a partly restored 16th century chateau, and is an attractively laid out parc with plenty of open space for children to play in and mature woodlands to explore

The parc has excellent facilities and is ideal as a stopover en-route south as it is located just 16km from the A6 Autoroute du Soleil. However, the parc also offers lots to those who wish to stay for longer. Its excellent facilities include a delightful restaurarestaurant chateau lepervierent in the château and a super pool complex with both indoor and outdoor pools, jacuzzi and sauna. There is also a large lake, with a river just a brief stroll away and the famous vineyards of Burgundy within an easy drive. Wine growers from the region come to the chateau to run wine tasting sessions to introduce you to the wonderful wines of the Burgundy region. And if you are visiting later in the summer, the annual Wine Festival is held in the region between 29th August and 4th September in Dijon and Beaune.

Things to Do in the Area

Dijon (88km)

Geneva (191 km)

The Hospice de Beaune is worth visiting to see its wonderful coloured tiled roof. Beaune is in the heart of the Burgundy wine region.

In Southern Burgundy you can visit the ecumenical community of Taizé which is famous among other things for its wonderful music - modern church music with haunting sounds.

The region in good for walking and cycling. The vineyards of the Mâconnais and particularly the Roche de Solutré are very suitable for nature walks and the Voie Verte (former rail road transformed into cycling path) offers more than 60 km secure and very pleasant cycling, running from Chalon sur Saône to Mâcon.

We cannot guarantee that descriptions on this site are accurate, up to date or free from error. We have found that the campsites described are very good but we find that it is difficult to find a campsite which has 100% of what you are looking for.  Also one person may love a busy campsite with lots of activities while someone else may love a quiet campsite with a small swimming pool. Actually we tend to be the latter ! So what we have done is highlight the good points of the sites and maybe point out a few of what we have found as slightly negative points. However we strongly recommend that you make full use of as many internet sources as possible before deciding about your holiday, including other review sites and Google maps etc.
