A Blog Post by Jennifer Wilson
I'm just back from my annual visit to the SECC Caravan Motorhome Á Holiday Home Show. Its always a good day out, and it always astounds me that every year I spot at least ten or so interesting new products to blog about !
This year was no exception, but firstly some impressions from the show. It seemed to me that this year's show was even more popular than usual. It used to be that if you went on a weekday it was fairly quiet, but this year it was busy and the car park seemed almost full. And I would say quite a number of those people were seriously thinking of buying a motorhome or caravan !
There are always busy areas of the show, but remember to check out the quieter areas as the exhibits there can be good too ! And I found two really interesting food stalls hidden away at the back of one arena. I would say that although there is a show guide with floor plan, the actual visitors can be fairly disorientated at these shows, and it was by sheer chance that I found the tent hall where the tents were themselves displayed in a large tent outside one of the halls ! This was also where you could buy a beer if you fancy that ! As usual it's us tenters who really know how to enjoy ourselves ;-)
I think to help the visitors at these shows there should be for example large footprints suspended over the areas to give us a walking route through ... a bit like Ikea has a walking route on its floor ...
Anyway, back to the tents ! Vango had their Airbeam tents on display - they look excellent. And I liked their inflatable camping sofa ! There were a few different tent manufacturers on show, but really some of those tents are getting to a silly size now. I am not sure how many campsites that we have been to could actually cope with tents that size. I guess you could book two pitches ...
And while tents seem to be getting bigger, caravans seem to be getting smaller ! I think I have just deleted some of my excellent photographs I took ...
But here is a great little Eriba caravan :
The small caravans are actually a bit like Dr Who's Tardis - they seem much bigger inside than they look from the outside. Would you believe that Eriba even manages to have a small toilet/shower room !
Other useful things I spotted :
Air conditioning units which can be fitted onto a roof window - no doubt ideal if you are visiting the likes of the South of France or Spain in the summer months.
I love this special "Camping Show" VW camper office for Caledonian Campers who do campervan conversions etc. and I think possibly hire out vans too.
Cheese making kits from The Big Cheese Company. You can find them online. These kits make soft cheese and in apparently a fairly short time, and using Vegetarian rennet as well. Seemed very interesting anyway !
If you are going a boating holiday with a dog then you can get them their own floats.
I love these flip flops - they make me think of summer sun !
I wondered whether to buy one of these - either for myself as I have twice dropped a mobile phone in water by mistake ! But also it would be a good present for my sister in law who has I think managed to drop a phone in water at least three times. She now has a waterproof phone though ! But it would be quite a funny present for her !
These frying pans really were tiny ! Ideal for all those tiny caravans you can get nowadays ! These would be ideal to fry your egg in the morning ! As always there are loads of fabulous gadgets and household items on sale for you to stock up your caravan, motorhome or tent !
There are always good logos on the clothing stall - these ones will be loved by horsey people !
This paddle boat reminds me of my childhood at Victoria Park in Glasgow - I used to love the paddle boats on the boating pond there ! This one was just a little pricey - but would be great fun ! Some lucky child will maybe get this ! Although the colour scheme is interesting .... !!
